Float and Set

Float and Set

We carry out all aspects of internal plastering, including traditional float and set. This is a two stage system that creates a more durable finish than the modern day dry lining system.

See my video below for the 3 step system to Traditional Float and Set:

Stage 1: Chop old plaster off to reveal original brickwork
Stage 2: Apply 2 costs of relevant backing plaster (in this case thistle hardwall
Stage 3: Two coat skim to finish

New Build Float And Set Advantages

The float and set system is at a higher skill level than plasterboard and skim because float and set requires the wet coat to be screeded off exactly level with a very straight edge to a tolerance of around 3-5mm.

Float and Set is much harder work, due to the amount of constant and consistent mixing required. The biggest advantage is that it givse a much greater sound density than plasterboards and it is an excellent insulator against heat and noise.

A number of backing plasters can be used from Browning, bonding and hard wall right through to sand and cement. Once two coats of either of these have been applied and levelled this is then skimmed to finish, ready for d├ęcor.
